Normally people have the idea as to what happens in vitiligo but they are less certain as to what happens in this disease. We are aware of the fact that the pigment cells do not function in the white patches though a few survive in the skin and then in the hair follicles. There are a number of theories which exist to explain the pigment destruction – the much famous one is the autoimmune theory that means the human body’s immune system attacks the pigment cells.
